The Chinese Athletics Association has released the "2025 China Road Running Consumption Report" — how much did you spend last year? The trends and insights make one thing clear: the number of domestic races is declining, but average participants per event rose to 10,500. Looking at the fourth quarter of last year, overall race resources began shifting toward larger-scale and higher-quality events, so finishers in certified marathon races continued to grow, reaching 2,602,700 finishers. Middle-aged and male have become prominent labels among runners. The gender split remains skewed — 85.3% male versus 14.7% female — while the 40–49 age group accounts for 33.2%, the largest share; runners aged 50 and over make up 23.3%, the third-largest share. For brands, the influx of new runners is good news: 43.1% of runners have been running for less than three years. More newcomers are likely to appear in the future, and brands need to figure out how to turn them into loyal fans. Finally, the money question: average participant spending last year reached 14,403 yuan (RMB), 959 yuan more than in 2024. Per-capita direct spending actually fell by 474 yuan, while most of the increase showed up in indirect spending, which rose by 1,433 yuan.
