Six world records ratified — including Yomif Kejelcha’s 10 km

World records set by Yomif Kejelcha, Josh Hoey and Toshikazu Yamanishi have been ratified by World Athletics, and U20 world records by Saron Berhe, Cooper Lutkenhaus and Gout Gout have also been confirmed. Kejelcha is also the half marathon world record holder, but Jacob Kiplimo has run a faster time. American Josh Hoey produced a world indoor record of 1:42.50 in the men's 800 metres at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on 24 January, improving Wilson Kipketer's 1:42.67 from the 1997 World Indoor Championships in Paris by 0.17 seconds. Japanese athlete Toshikazu Yamanishi set the inaugural men's half marathon race walk world record with 1:20:34 at the Japanese Half Marathon Race Walking Championships in Kobe on 15 February. Earlier, World Athletics had formally designated the half marathon and marathon as official race walking distances. Ethiopia U20 world champion Saron Berhe ran 4:01.23 in Ostrava on 3 February to set the women's U20 1500 metres indoor world record, lowering the previous mark by 0.34 seconds. American Cooper Lutkenhaus ran 1:44.03 in Winston-Salem on 14 February to break the men's U20 indoor 800 metres world record of 1:44.35 set by Yuri Borzakovskiy in 2000. He went on to win the men's 800 at the World Indoor Championships, becoming the youngest champion in any event in the history of the indoor/outdoor world championships. Australian sprint prospect Gout ran a stunning 19.67 seconds to reset the men's U20 200 metres world record at the Australian Championships in Sydney on 12 April, not only massively improving his personal best but also shaving 0.02 seconds off Erriyon Knighton's 19.69 set in Eugene in 2022.
