Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha ran 26:31 in Castellón on 16 February 2025 — a performance that was initially the world’s second-fastest — but when Kipruto’s 26:24 from Valencia in January 2020 was annulled for a doping violation, Kejelcha was upgraded to world record-holder.
In addition, Kejelcha is the half-marathon world record-holder, although Jacob Kiplimo has since run a faster time. ([worldathletics.org](https://worldathletics.org/competitions/world-athletics-label-road-races/news/jacob-kiplimo-half-marathon-world-record-lisbon?utm_source=openai))
American Josh Hoey set a men's indoor 800 m world record of 1:42.50 on 24 January at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, improving Wilson Kipketer’s 1:42.67 from the 1997 World Indoor Championships in Paris by 0.17 seconds. Japanese athlete Toshikazu Yamanishi clocked 1:20:34 at the Japanese Half Marathon Race Walking Championships in Kobe on 15 February to set the inaugural men's half-marathon race-walking world record. Previously, World Athletics had announced that the half marathon and marathon would be recognised as official race-walking distances.
Ethiopia’s U20 world champion Saron Berhe ran 4:01.23 in Ostrava on 3 February to set the women's U20 indoor 1500 m world record, 0.34 seconds faster than the previous mark.
American Cooper Lutkenhaus ran 1:44.03 in Winston‑Salem on 14 February to break Russia’s Yuriy Borzakovskiy’s 2000 men's U20 indoor 800 m world record of 1:44.35. He went on to win the men's 800 m title at the World Indoor Championships, becoming the youngest champion in the history of any event at the indoor or outdoor World Championships.
Australian sprinting prospect Gout Gout produced a stunning 19.67 at the Australian Championships in Sydney on 12 April to reset the men's U20 200 m world record, massively improving his personal best and shaving 0.02 seconds off Erriyon Knighton’s 19.69 U20 world record set in Eugene in 2022.
