Yunnan's Jiang Fakun stripped of men's 10,000m title; Shandong's Tang Haoran upgraded to gold

In this morning's men's 10,000m final at the 15th National Games, Yunnan athlete Jiang Fakun won the title.

The race turned in the penultimate lap, with Jiang Fakun leading and Yu Shuiqing right behind him, poised to lap Yang Shaohui. As they closed in on Yang Shaohui, he accelerated to the front and raised the tempo. Entering the final lap sprint, Jiang Fakun produced a strong decisive surge to shake off Yu Shuiqing and went on to claim the victory.

Many people saw the scene as a classic piece of teamwork on the track; commentators even described it as a team effort.

However, according to World Athletics technical rule 6.3.1, athletes who have been lapped or are about to be lapped cannot act as pacemakers. In other words, Yang Shaohui, who was about to be lapped, acting as a pacemaker for his teammate Jiang Fakun constituted a violation.

After the race, a competing team lodged a protest, and the results of the two Yunnan team runners were ultimately cancelled.

In the latest results list, Jiang Fakun and Yang Shaohui have both been disqualified; Tang Haoran of the Shandong team was promoted to champion, Yu Shuiqing is runner-up, and Ma Wenliang took third place.
