Among the top-20 men, 17 results come from Meishan, Sichuan, and among the top-20 women there are 11. Meishan has clearly become China’s fastest half-marathon course and the preferred place for the country’s top athletes to chase new PBs. From this list, over the past three years Chinese middle- and long-distance running has entered a period of rapid growth — overall competition levels have improved, the talent pool has deepened, and athletes born after 2000 are sweeping through China’s middle- and long-distance scene. Yu Shuiqing (born 2006), and the 2004-borns Liang Tiantian, Wang Wenjie, Yang Yiting... are all a formidable new generation. It should be noted that Chen Shangdong’s result on this list is disputed, but it is still recorded by World Athletics. The performances by Peng Jianhua and Dong Guojian at the 2022 Xiamen East Ring Half Marathon were not officially listed by World Athletics, but we still count them here as valid domestic results.
