20-year-old British university student becomes world's youngest to complete seven major marathons

According to the Abbott World Marathon Majors, 20-year-old British student Lucy Scott has become the youngest person to complete the seven World Marathon Majors and earn the Six Star Finisher medal, she completed the Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Sydney marathons over the past 18 months to receive the honor.

Scott said she started running in 2024, adding: “This is the best thing I’ve ever done. I started running in my first year at university and had no prior experience.”

She ran the 2024 London Marathon and raised £7,685 (about RMB 71,827) for a UK charity supporting disabled athletes. Her father John inspired her to take up the sport. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, John had been working towards a six-star medal. However, due to injury he had to stop running and missed the Tokyo and Boston marathons.

Scott has since followed in her father's footsteps; she says her parents support her travelling the world to compete in every race. "I think they love the sport as much as I do!" Scott said. She plans to complete her third London Marathon in April 2026, and added: "If I can balance my studies and fundraising, I hope to earn a nine-star medal", a future award the World Marathon Majors is reportedly considering, which would cover Cape Town Marathon and Shanghai Marathon. "I would be more than happy if I can qualify!"
