(19-year-old Zhang Jiale from Shandong, China, broke the women's U20 world record in the hammer with a throw of 75.14 m in early June this year. In early August she extended the U20 world record to 77.24 m, won the national athletics championships, and stood just 0.44 m shy of the Asian record. At the Tokyo World Athletics Championships in September she took bronze with a throw of 77.10 m.
