This morning the 2026 Shanghai Half Marathon concluded, and the Shanghai Marathon Organizing Committee quickly released the rankings: the top 200 men and top 100 women in the half marathon will receive automatic entry to this year’s Shanghai Marathon. Based on information runners have posted on social media: The men’s 200th-place time was 1:15:33. The women’s 99th-place time was 1:30:09. Both marks represent clear improvements over last year. Last year the automatic-qualification cutoff for men was within 1:17:55, and for women it was 1:33:37 — the men’s and women’s cutoffs are roughly 2 minutes 22 seconds and 3 minutes 27 seconds faster, respectively. Last week’s Shanghai Women’s Half Marathon automatic-qualification time was 1:31:48, whereas the women’s field at this Shanghai Half Marathon was evidently more competitive. Running into the 1:30s next year now looks highly likely. And a 1:15 time for men is no longer safe: in 2024 the men’s 50th place was 1:14:56, while that same time this year ranks 170th.
