On May 17, 2026, the IRONMAN 70.3 Shanghai Chongming kicked off at the Guangming Tianyuan Scenic Area on Chongming Island. Nearly 1,500 athletes from 66 countries and regions competed on the island, and the event set new records for both scale and international participation.

IRONMAN 70.3 includes a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21.1 km run.

Chinese triathlete Chen Rongheng, from Longyan, Fujian, raced on home soil. After trailing slightly in the swim and bike, he surged during the run to take the overall win in 3 hours 47 minutes 22 seconds — the best result yet for a Chinese athlete in a 70.3.

Chen Rongheng's split times for the three disciplines were:

Swim 24:25, pace 1:18 min/100m

Bike 2:03:45, average speed 43.88 km/h

Run 1:16:17, pace 3:39 min/km

Swiss professional triathlete Alanis Siffert won the women's title in 4:05:30.

Her times for the three disciplines were:

Swim 27:11, pace 1:26 min/100m

Bike 2:11:25, pace 41.31 km/h

Run 1:24:10, pace 4:01 min/km

In the relay competition, TEAM DESCENTE, formed by Zhang Yuhan, Li Si and Bas, won the mixed relay category with a time of 4:12:32.

In the men's relay category, the "Yifu Chong Yichong" team — Song Chenrui, Wang Jie and Xia Wenjie — still won the title despite a crash; their finishing time was 4:30:09.
