In the men's 100m spotlight, Tokyo and Paris Olympic 200m silver medalist Kenneth Bednarek is one to watch. At last week's Shanghai/Keqiao meet he clocked 9.98 and finished third by a thousandth; in Xiamen he will surely be aiming to take the win. His rivals include last week's champion, South African Leotlela, and Botswana sprint sensation Letsile Tebogo. Women's 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan ran 12.41 last week for third, with American Masey Russell taking the victory. The two will meet again in Xiamen and Amusan will be aiming for revenge. Another world record holder seeking revenge is Norway's Karsten Warholm. In Shanghai/Keqiao he lost the 300m hurdles to Brazil's Alison dos Santos; this week they collide again in the 400m hurdles. As two members of the men's 400m hurdles 'big three', the pair are set for a razor‑sharp duel. In the middle distances, Oceanian record holder and world number one Jessica Hull was not at her best last week and finished sixth; in Xiamen's women's 1500m she will be fighting to return to the top of the podium. Sweden's Andreas Almgren finished third in last week's men's 3000m in 7:26.48, setting a national record. In Xiamen he switches to the 5000m — an event in which he holds the European record — so we'll be watching to see whether a new mark can be set. On the field side, men's shot put world record holder Ryan Crouser, the unbeaten 'discus queen' Valarie Sain following the Budapest World Championships, and Italy's long jump prodigy and Tokyo World Championships champion Mattia Frani — who set a PB just last week — will all be in action, bringing top‑level performances.
