He’s arguably the closest thing to a human god in the sport and always pushes the limits each time he competes. Chinese fans will have a rare chance to watch his technique, rhythm and mental control up close. Faith Kipyegon — the women’s 1500 m and mile world record holder. She’s entered for the 5000 m here; remember she was previously the 5000 m world record holder and a 5000 m world champion. Karsten Warholm — world record holder in the 400 m hurdles and holder of the best-ever performance at 300 m hurdles. He’s back contesting the 300 m hurdles and looks capable of improving the world best. Letsile Tebogo — the sprinting breakout star and 200 m Olympic champion from Paris. He also helped Botswana win the 4x400 m at the World Relays earlier this year. Jessica Hull — the fifth-fastest woman ever over 1500 m and Oceania record holder — can she lower her mark again in Keqiao? Salwa Eid Naser — Asia’s fastest woman over 400 m and the fifth-fastest in history; can she crack the 48-second barrier? Shericka Jackson — the second-fastest woman ever over 200 m. At 31 she remains in strong form. Cordell Tinch — posted a 12.87 s personal best in Keqiao last year and went on to take the Tokyo World Championships title; he’s in excellent form. Mattia Furlani — Italy’s long jump prodigy. Although his PB may not look eye-popping on paper, he already has a world championship title and is still very young. Daniel Ståhl — the 2‑metre powerhouse, remarkably consistent on the big stage: Tokyo Olympic champion and a world champion in Doha, Budapest and Tokyo. Andreas Almgren — a leading figure in European middle- and long-distance running; holder of the European records for 5000 m and the half marathon, and the second-fastest European in history over 10 km.
