American runner Ben Dhiman won this year’s UTMB men’s title in an unprecedented 18 hours 16 minutes 29 seconds.
After the race he uploaded his activity data to the social platform Strava. Let’s take a look at his astonishing numbers.
His watch data shows a distance of 169.97 km and total ascent of 9,686 m, roughly matching the official numbers. His moving time was 18 hours 03 minutes, which means he spent only about 13 minutes in total at aid stations.
Looking at his heart rate: an average of only 128 beats per minute, spending almost the entire race in Zone 1 and Zone 2 — no wonder he kept getting faster.
His finishing scores in the UTMB and ITRA systems were also released: 995 and 992 respectively, nearly perfect performances.
After seeing his data, what surprised you the most?
