The Hong Kong Marathon Organising Committee announced yesterday that the 2027 Hong Kong Marathon, scheduled to start with the gun on January 17 next year, will add 4,000 half-marathon entries, bringingthe total entries for the main Hong Kong Marathon events (marathon, half-marathon, 10K) to a record high of 78,000, makingit one of the world’s largest single-event systems combining marathon, half-marathon and short-distance races.
At the press conference, the Organising Committee said demand to take part in the Hong Kong Marathon has been steadily increasing, with demand for half-marathon spots rising most markedly in recent years; therefore they decided to increase half-marathon entries by 16% for the 2027 edition to meet runners’ needs.
At the same time, a new “5km Seaside Run” will be added on January 16, 2027 — the day before the Hong Kong Marathon — with 3,000 spots; the “Vibrant Youth Run” for 10–15-year-olds held the same day will also increase from 2,500 to 3,000 entries. In total, 84,000 runners will take part across the two-day marathon events.
After the adjustments, the entry allocations for each category are as follows:
