Norway's "long-distance prodigy" Per August Halle Haugen continues to set new personal records. At last month's Hytteplanmila 10 km race he once again showed remarkable strength, crossing the line in 31:35 with an astonishing pace of 3:10 per kilometer, improving his PB by 13 seconds!

At just 15 years old, Haugen has been continually pushing the limits of time on the track. His 10K results have been steadily improving each year:

9 years old / PB: 36:34

11 years old / PB: 34:44

Age 12 / Personal best: 33:17

Age 13 / Personal best: 32:43

Age 14 / Personal best: 32:11

Age 15 / Personal best: 31:35

However, debate has never ceased over the training methods used for this Norwegian rising star. The teenage athlete is coached by his mother, Gunhild Halle Haugen, and his training intensity has reached a very professional level, including the use of a portable blood lactate analyzer to precisely monitor physiological load and avoid the risk of overtraining. But whether such systematic, professional training should be imposed at such a young age remains a continuing point of contention in the athletics world.

In addition, similar concerns about the long-term development of youth athletes have been reflected in adjustments to training policies in some regions. The reporter also consulted distance-running coaches for their views.

"To make a breakthrough and achieve good results in the 10,000m, training volume often has to reach 15 km, even 20 km. Given the physical maturity of high school students, expecting them to withstand such a huge training load is undoubtedly pushing them too hard." Thus, many track-and-field enthusiasts' concerns that Haugen-style training imposes excessively high loads are not without merit.

Per August Haller Haugen's astonishing results have undoubtedly made him a dazzling future star in Norwegian athletics. He has shown immense potential and demonstrated the benefits of systematic training. However, as his coach has warned, high-intensity, high-mileage training is always a double-edged sword when dealing with a still-developing body.

The future of this "Norwegian wunderkind" is exciting, but figuring out how to make his career go further and last longer may be the most crucial challenge ahead.
