At 10:00 on July 31, 2026, the lottery results for the 2026 Hangzhou Marathon were officially announced. This edition of the Hangzhou Marathon will be held on November 1, with a total event capacity of 36,000 participants, including 22,000 for the marathon and 14,000 for the half marathon.   Registration for this year's Hangzhou Marathon exceeded 200,000 on the first day, and final registrations surpassed 300,000. Of these, 121,562 registered for the full marathon, an increase of about 83% compared with 66,310 in 2025; 182,734 registered for the half marathon, up about 68% from 108,521 in 2025.   In 2025, combined registrations for the Hangzhou Marathon's full and half marathon events totaled 174,831; even with the fun run added the number was only 200,778. This year, with the fun run canceled and only the full and half marathon competitive events offered — each expanded by 2,000 slots — registrations still exceeded last year by more than 100,000, an increase of about 74%.   The sharp rise in registrations has directly lowered the lottery success rate for the full marathon.   The lottery success rate for the 2026 Hangzhou full marathon is about 15%; by comparison, the marathon acceptance rate in 2025 was 21.19%. Over the course of a year, the rate dropped by 6.19%.   Competition for the half marathon remains extremely fierce. This year 182,734 people registered; the lottery success rate is 6.68%, essentially unchanged from last year's 6.73%.   The 2026 Hangzhou Marathon added a second lottery to its registration process. If first-round lottery winners fail to complete payment or other required procedures by the deadline, they will be considered to have voluntarily forfeited their entry; the vacated slots will be reallocated through a second lottery.   From 200,000 registrants in 2025 to 300,000 in 2026, the Hangzhou Marathon became, in just one year, another domestic race to surpass the 300,000 registration mark.   On November 1, only 36,000 runners will ultimately be able to take to the Hangzhou Marathon course. What kind of excitement the race will produce this year remains to be seen!
