In the early hours of September 6 (Beijing time), at the 2026 Diamond League Final in Brussels, China’s 18-year-old Yan Ziyi briefly moved into the lead with a fourth throw of 64.95 m and then unleashed a 68.42 m fifth attempt, overpowering the field, smashing the meeting record (68.11 m set in 2022 by U.S. athlete Kara Winger) and claiming her first Diamond League overall title.
This season she has been unstoppable, sweeping four consecutive wins on the circuit. At the Xiamen leg she threw 71.74 m to break the women's javelin Asian record, climbing to No. 2 on the all-time list and standing just 54 cm shy of the world record. Today she delivered a jaw-dropping throw over Brussels, rewriting the meeting record and locking down the overall championship.
Earlier, Feng Bin had already won the women's discus, giving China two women atop the Diamond League podium this year.
Yan Ziyi will next appear at the Nagoya Asian Games — can this 18-year-old "record harvester" make history again?
