Gossip

Gossip 1: Western States 100

This was the biggest global trail-running story of the week. The first-ever Chinese-language livestream and a stream of first-hand scoops were delivered across 越走文化’s NK, NK on site and Superpace platforms. For in-depth original finish-line interviews, please visit those platforms.

The completion rate of the Chinese and Chinese-origin “Eight Iron Men” was 100%, outperforming the field!

Li Yiran; 22:37:05, 62nd man, 83rd overall.

Gossip 2: Wearing medals at graduation ceremony

Recently at the graduation ceremony of Xi’an Jiaotong University of Engineering, graduate Jin Yanwei posed for photos with school leaders while carrying a yoke laden with more than 70 medals he earned competing in marathons and other races during his studies, which went viral online.

Gossip 3: Ria has run into Shanxi

Xi Yuwei, who started a 20,000 km trans-Eurasian run from Vladivostok on May 1, has now entered Shanxi Province. At each stop, the number of running companions joining her has steadily increased.

Gossip 4: Beijing tightens regulations on trail running races

Recently, Beijing authorities issued local policies that strictly limit the timing and annual number of “high-risk mountain trail running races” within the urban area, and plan to introduce a course certification system for each district.

Allowed periods: first half of the year March 16 – May 31; second half September 16 – November 14.

Annual limits: over 100 km — 1 event; 42.195–100 km — 5 events; 25–42.195 km — 12 events per year; and only one event may be held citywide on any given calendar day.

Frankly, the intellectual level and judgment of these officials — who define “outdoor high-risk sports” without referencing China’s terrain maps or regional meteorological data — is not much different from other higher-ups who do the same!
