In this issue we head north to unlock the "hardcore" athletics stadiums in Jiading and Baoshan.
1. Jiading Sports Center

Standard 400 m synthetic track

Features:
Parking is free for the first 2 hours — more than enough for routine training;
The athletics entrance is at the north gate — don’t go to the wrong gate. Running is free; no reservation required, just enter;
Lanes 1–3 are for fitness running; lanes 5–8 are for brisk walking;
As it’s the home stadium of a China League One team, the football pitch is off-limits, so you won’t have to worry about stray footballs while running;
2. Baoshan Sports Center
Address:
No. 700 Yongqing Road, Baoshan District
Transit:
Metro Line 3, Baoyang Road Station
Track:
Outer loop 400 m synthetic track
Opening hours:
Daily 05:00–22:00
Features:
Over the past two years it has hosted the "Run Baoshan" Shanghai Strongest Running Club Competition;
There are two public parking areas — surface lot at Gate 4, Yongle Road, 3 CNY/hour; underground at Gate 6, Yongle Road, 6 CNY/hour; parking fees have an 8-hour daily cap.
A 1 km synthetic running loop runs around the outside of the stadium — a thoughtful design that makes counting laps and calculating distance easy;
One lap of the track is actually about 360 m, not 400 m; the outer lane is close to 400 m. Walkers typically use inner lanes 1–4; runners usually use outer lanes 7–8.
Jiading Sports Center and Baoshan Sports Center share the same tags: great for running, free, and popular.
