On July 3 (Beijing time), the Chinese Athletics Association officially released the list of athletes selected for the athletics events at the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games.
Thirty-six male athletes will compete across 17 events, and thirty-six female athletes will contest 16 events.
Surprisingly, China has not entered any athletes in the women's 5,000m or 10,000m for this edition of the Asian Games — disappointingly, neither Wuga He (who ran under 15 minutes in the U.S.) nor Liang Tiantian (who claimed a double in Rizhao) made the list.
In the men's middle- and long-distance events, Wang Wenjie is the sole representative, entered in both the men's 5,000m and 10,000m. Another young talent, Yu Shuiqing, ultimately missed the Asian Games due to injury.
The marathon squad was selected entirely based on the Lanzhou Marathon trials: Feng Peiyou, Jia Erenjia, Ciren Cuomu and Wu Bing will head to Nagoya. The marathon is also the only event to include athletes from outside the national system — Jia Erenjia's selection brings fresh hope to non-system runners.
For the 3000m steeplechase, China has not entered any athletes — a reflection of the event's generally modest results this season. After Zhang Xinyan and Xu Shuangshuang, it remains to be seen who can take up the mantle.
In the closely watched women's 100m hurdles, experienced campaigners Wu Yanni and Lin Yuwei earned places. Mo Jiadie, who featured at the World Championships, is unfortunately absent — but we look forward to bigger things from her in the 100m hurdles in future!
We'll bring more Asian Games coverage soon~
