On May 23, 2026, on the eve of the Lanzhou Marathon, elite athletes held a pre-race training session at the Lanzhou Olympic Sports Center. National record holder Feng Peiyou, two former national record holders He Jie and Yang Shaohui, and Mao Jinhu—who set a debut-marathon record at the Wuxi Marathon—drew considerable attention when they appeared.

Members of the Tibet team—Suolang Cairen, Zhaxi Ciren and Ciren Cuomu—along with Henan team runners Lu Ying and Xu Bingjie, Jiangsu team’s Wu Bing and Wang Jiali, Beijing team’s Xia Yuyu, and Yunnan team’s Chen Tianyu also completed their final pre-race workouts. Hong Yue, who posted a big PB at the Wuxi Marathon, and "the people's top female" Zhu Qing, among other non-state-affiliated runners, are also major contenders for the Lanzhou Marathon podium.
