The 2026 Boston Marathon concluded at an astonishing level of performance. At the same time, we were surprised to find seven new times enter the top-10 all-time list for the men at Boston. Previously the 6th to 10th spots on that list sat around the 2:05 range. This year the Boston Marathon’s top ten all went under the 2:05 mark. Defending champion John Korir’s winning time from last year — which used to rank third all-time — has become merely the cutoff for this year’s top ten, yet his 2:01:52 still stunned the world. Beyond the men’s top three all setting new event bests, North American runners also stood out — Ryan Hall’s former fastest American time at Boston, 2:04:58, has been pushed out of the top ten. This year Moroccan-American runners Zouhair Talbi and Charles Hicks posted 2:03:45 and 2:04:35 respectively — the two fastest finishing full-marathon times by Americans this event has seen. Imagine what Conner Mantz might have run if he’d joined this Boston field. On the women’s side the new times also shook up the rankings: this year’s top five women all moved into the overall TOP 10 list. Sharon Lokedi and Loice CheMnung both cracked the 2:20 barrier at the Boston Marathon. Sharon Lokedi added another entry to the women’s top-ten times. Jess McClain, who finished fifth, became the fastest American woman to finish the Boston Marathon. With everyone running so fast at this Boston Marathon, we not only saw both champions defend their titles, but also the possibility of Korir dipping under 2:01 — and, more broadly, the Americans’ strong performances, deep talent pool at major marathons, and clear improvements in results.
