China introduces new industry standard for road races (TY/T 1118—2026)

The General Administration of Sport has officially approved and issued the sports industry standard "Health Risk Prevention and Control for Mass Participants in Road Running Events" (TY/T 1118—2026). This standard itself is not law; the "/T" in the industry standard code "TY/T" indicates it is recommended and serves as an operational model provided by the General Administration of Sport. However, for events seeking Athletics Association certification, this document will become one of the criteria used for scoring. The standard will take effect on September 15, 2026. This means that race organizers will, from that date, have a nationwide, unified scientific specification for protecting runners' health and safety. From pre-race, during the race, to post-race, "Health Risk Prevention and Control for Mass Participants in Road Running Events" brings more concrete implementation measures and standards. More importantly, the new industry standard explicitly specifies the spacing and qualifications required for course medical observers. A more meticulously managed era of road running may be about to begin. #marathon#road running#industry standard #trail running big bang
