Recently, World Athletics published the latest edition of the world rankings.
(Regarding World Athletics' world rankings: for the marathon event, the ranking takes the average of the performance scores from the two best results in the past 18 months. Performance scores include time scores and placing scores (placing scores are reduced by 30% starting in 2026). The detailed algorithm can be found on the World Athletics website.)
Let's look at the changes in the latest Chinese athletes' rankings.
On the women's side, Zhang Deshun remains China's No. 1, ranked 66th globally and 8th in Asia;
Li Meizhen, thanks to strong performances in Wuxi and Xiamen, moved up to second in China, rising from 164th to 110th worldwide—a substantial improvement.
Wu Bing is third in China, 123rd globally, slipping 3 places from last week;
Li Zhixuan is fourth in China, 145th globally, down 4 places.
On the men's side, Feng Peiyou continues to be China's No. 1, ranked 103rd globally—falling out of the top 100 (he was 98th last week and 96th the week before). However, with his current consistent performances, returning to the top 100 should not be difficult.
He Jie is second in China; with a steady performance in Seoul his global ranking climbed from 297th to 192nd.
Yang Shaohui is third in China, 208th globally, up 5 places from last week;
Chen Tianyu is fourth in China, 264th globally, up 4 places from last week.
Mao Jinhu is seventh in China. Although his full marathon debut produced an excellent 2:07:36, his half-marathon best score is not high, which drags down his overall ranking.
