Last Sunday (March 1), Feng Peiyou broke the Chinese national marathon record at the Tokyo Marathon with a time of 2:05:58, claiming the top Asian spot. Japanese runner Suguru Osako finished right behind, crossing the line one second later to place second among Asians and first for Japan.
After crossing the finish line, Suguru Osako helped him up and embraced Feng Peiyou. The new national record holder joked that Osako probably didn't know him before the race, but now Osako will definitely remember Feng Peiyou's name. On Osako's personal social media account he also posted a video congratulating Feng Peiyou on breaking the Chinese national record.
Feng Peiyou told Paoye: “It looks like I really earned his recognition.”
