Feng Peiyou and Zhang Deshun win back-to-back titles at Ningde…

Last week's marathon "annual spectacle", the Shanghai Marathon, came to a close, but the marathon excitement continued this week. The Ningde Marathon staged a "battle of the gods", the Xiamen Haicang Half Marathon and the Shenzhen Marathon also went off at the same time, followed by the Fukuoka International Marathon, giving runners another enjoyable marathon weekend.

The Ningde Marathon boasted a star-studded field this time, with seven National Games athletes plus a women's rising star making her marathon debut, bib 229, drawing attention — the "War Gods" team of He Jie, Feng Peiyou, Li Zhixuan and Zheng Xiaoqian battled fiercely with the "Super Gods" team of Zhang Deshun, Yang Shaohui, Dong Guojian and Xu Bingjie. Beyond the individual battles, the team duel added another layer of intrigue to the race.

Dubbed the "strongest post-00," Feng Peiyou delivered an excellent performance, leading from the start and steadily increasing his advantage in the second half. In the final stages, confident of victory, he even waved to nearby half-marathon runners. In the end he claimed the title in 2:10:45, adding another crown after last week's Shanghai Marathon domestic men's win. Dong Guojian clocked 2:12:58 for second, Yang Shaohui 2:14:31 for third, and He Jie crossed the line fourth.

'Marathon Queen' Zhang Deshun followed the same 'script' as Feng Peiyou today, and, relying on her great strength after securing a fourth consecutive win at last week's Shanghai Marathon, she claimed the Ningde Marathon title again. During the race, an early 2:29 fromZheng Xiaoqian briefly closed in on Zhang Deshun, butZhang held firm and ultimately won the women's title in 2:29:37. Zheng Xiaoqian finished second in 2:32:02, Xu Bingjie was third in 2:32:45, and Li Zhixuan placed fourth.

In thecontest between the War Gods team and the Super Gods team,the Super Gods team won by a 7-minute margin.

At the 2025 Xiamen Haicang Half Marathon, the performances of Ma Wenliang, Yang Dinghong, Huang Xuemei, Huang Fei and other top runners became the focus of attention.

Not long after winning the 10,000m bronze at the National Games, Ma Wenliang broke away from veteran Yang Dinghong after 10 km to take the lead and steadily extended his advantage, ultimately setting a new course record of 1:03:40 to claim the men's title. Yang Dinghong and Duosibaole Habulijiangen finished second and third respectively.

In the women's competition, at 5 km Zhao Chaoyun and Huang Fei were in the lead group, with Huang Xuemei 17 seconds behind them. By 12 km Huang Xuemei had completely made up the deficit and began to run alone at the front. Ultimately Huang Xuemei claimed the women's title in 1 hour 13 minutes 42 seconds, Bai Li moved up to take second, and Zhao Chaoyun finished third.

This year's Shenzhen Marathon attracted Li-Ning elite athletes such as Gao Peng, Xia Yuyu, and Ba Temengkai. In the race Gao Peng, who won the silver medal in the marathon at the National Games, continued to perform well; racing against a field of African elites he held firm in the later stages and finished third in 2 hours 13 minutes 59 seconds, becoming the top domestic male. Two Ethiopian athletes, Kemal HUSEN GEBI and Tadu ABATE DEME, took first and second.

Xia Yuyu ran a controlled, steady race, holding her lead as the top Chinese woman to the finish, ultimately claiming the domestic women's title in 2 hours 34 minutes 15 seconds. Zhu Qing (2:35:11) took second among Chinese athletes, and Zhang Shuihua (2:35:52) finished third domestically.

The 2025 Fukuoka International Marathon is a key battle for Japanese runners vying for the 2027 Marathon Grand Championship (MGC).MGC is Japan's core selection system for Olympic marathon representatives; qualifying for the MGC meansearning a spot in the Olympic selection race.

At the 78th Fukuoka International Marathon this time, athletes who can run inside 2:06:30, or finish among the top six Japanese runners and run inside 2:09, will secure an entry ticket.

The starting temperature was about 15.9°C with 56% humidity, slightly warm conditions for a marathon. The pace for the first kilometer was 2:59 per km, a relatively steady start overall. Yusuke Nishiyama, Kyohei Hosoya, Shunya Kikuchi and other runners joined the lead group.

As the temperature rose, by around 17 km the lead group split: Nishiyama, Hosoya, Kikuchi and others dropped into the second pack, while the front group was led by seven foreign runners with Takumi Oishi continuing to set the pace.

After the halfway mark, Yusuke Nishiyama broke away from the second pack and by around 23 km caught the lead group. Then near 26 km, Kyohei Hosoya also chased out of the second group trying to join the leaders. At about 27.9 km, the two succeeded in rejoining them.

Around 32 km Nishiyama launched his first acceleration, Hosoya followed closely, and a foreign runner also caught up. At 33 km Nishiyama continued to accelerate, starting to pull away from the chasers.

By about 35 km Hosoya caught back up to the lead group, the top three became Nishiyama, Hosoya and the Ethiopian runner Beyelign Teshager Beyelign Teshager . At 39 km Nishiyama launched a second sprint; Hosoya couldn't keep up, and the title looked set to be decided between Nishiyama and Beyelign.

At 40 km Beyelign launched an attack, opening a gap on Nishiyama. Entering the stadium for the final sprint,Beyelign held the lead to the end, winning in 2:07:51; Nishiyama ultimately finished second, only 5 seconds behind.

Based on the placements,Yusuke Nishiyama, Kyohei Hosoya and Takumi Oishi earned MGC entry spots.
