This Sunday (Nov 30, 6:45), the 2025 Shanghai Marathon will begin, and it will be Shanghai's most important sporting event that day,Although race entries are limited, spectator spots are unlimited. Besides being able to watch the live broadcast on Wuxing Sports (starts at 6:20), heading to the course to soak up the race atmosphere in person and cheer on fellow runners is also a great choice. So, where are you planning to watch the race? The pedestrian overpass at the intersection of Huashan Road and Middle Yan'an Road is a great spot to watch the race — you can see the lead pack thunder past, the bustling group of sub-3 runners, and Jing'an Temple in the background. If you're a photography enthusiast, it's an ideal place to shoot. If you shoot facing the runners from across Jing'an Temple, you might come away with even better shots than those taken in front of the Kaminarimon at the Tokyo Marathon. Runners reach about the 9 km mark after turning from Changshu Road onto Huaihai Middle Road. Huaihai Middle Road is not only Shanghai's famous shopping street but also a hub for major sports brands, Nike, adidas, UA, PUMA, 李宁和 ASICS all have stores along this road. They'll set up dedicated cheer stations to welcome runners, and that surge of hype will definitely be electric. Near Huaihai Middle Road and Ruijin Road, and near Huaihai Middle Road and Madang Road. At the same time, the 9–10 km section is served by multiplemetro lines — Lines 1, 10, 12 and 13 — making it easy for spectators to transfer between viewing spots. The Shanghai Marathon course near Longhua East Road is consistently twisty; a little to the east you can reach the sections around Bansongyuan Road and Miaojiang Road, while to the west lies the long straight of Longhua East Road. Runners can travel between these sections by running or cycling. At the corner of Mengzi Road and Longhua East Road there's also HOKA support station waiting for everyone, and we can look forward to what new tricks HOKA will come up with this year? After 26 km the Shanghai Marathon course enters the long Longteng Avenue, and Longlan Road at 28 km is one of the viewing options. With the West Bund Art Museum as a backdrop, spectators here can watch the lead pack’s surging and tactical pulling — the race is likely to break up at this point, adidas and 怡宝 have both set up support stations here. If you have enough patience, you can wait here; the competitors will turn around on Longteng Avenue, and when they pass by again they will have already run 36 km. Let’s see whether everyone’s predictions at 28 km were accurate. If you get the chance, I’d suggest you run the section of the course after 32 km; there, beyond a PB, you might discover a deeper meaning to the marathon. This is the toughest part of the course. After the climb you immediately turn back and retrace the route you came; most people have already hit their limit — don’t hold back your shouts and applause. That might be the mental jolt that helps them start running again.
