Today, the China Anti-Doping Agency's official website published a notice stating that two track and field athletes were found to have committed anti-doping violations. They are Li Guanghui and Xu Zhongwei.

Li Guanghui was found to have used roxadustat at the 2025 Wuhu Marathon and Chinese Athletics Association 10 km Elite Race (Wuhu leg). He finished third in 2:25:35. He also placed fifth at the Heze Marathon this year.

Xu Zhongwei, however, was found at the Suqian Marathon to have takenDapusita and its metabolites. He also finished third with a time of 2:22:35. From Suzhou in Anhui, his best full marathon is 2:20:06, set at the Hengshui Lake race. This year he also finished runner-up at the Shexian Marathon.

Both athletes declined B-sample testing, which indicates there was no accidental ingestion.

This isn't the first time this year that a marathon athlete has been implicated in a doping violation. So it's not enough to ask only why an athlete would take such a risk.
