From Asian Games champion to university teacher: Lin Yuwei set to join Fuzhou University

On July 27, Fuzhou University released a public notice of proposed hires for high-level teaching and research personnel for 2026. After application, qualification review, interviews, assessments and medical examinations, the university identified 30 proposed candidates.

Among them, women's 100m hurdles standout Lin Yuwei is proposed to be hired for a teaching and research position in the Sports Teaching and Research Department at Fuzhou University. The notice shows Lin Yuwei graduated from East China Normal University with a major in Physical Education, holding a bachelor's degree; she is noted as a "high-level athlete." The public notice period runs from July 27 to August 4.

Lin Yuwei was born in May 1999. She joined the Fuzhou City Sports Work Team in 2010, was transferred to the Fujian Provincial Athletics and Cycling Sports Management Center in 2016, and was selected for the national team in 2021.

At the 14th National Games in 2021, she won the women's 100m hurdles title in 12.88 seconds, establishing herself among the country's top hurdlers.

In the women's 100m hurdles final at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, despite a less-than-ideal start, Lin Yuwei accelerated in the latter stages and crossed the line first in 12.74 seconds. That performance set a new personal best and met the qualifying standard for the Paris Olympics.

Entering the 2026 season, Lin Yuwei remains in strong competitive form. In the National Athletics Grand Prix Finals held July 18–19, she represented Fujian in the women's 100m hurdles final and won in 13.26 seconds.

Currently, the related hiring is still at the public notice stage. If the notice is confirmed, Lin Yuwei will move from the competitive arena to a university teaching and research role.

From "Asian Flying Man" Su Bingtian taking a teaching post at Jinan University, to Lin Yuwei's proposed appointment at Fuzhou University, the addition of an active athlete who still possesses high-level competitive experience could more directly bring professional training, competitive psychology and major-event experience into university physical education and student development.

For them, it is also another way to continue their athletic careers.
