On August 23, this Sunday at 8:00 AM Argentina time (19:00 Beijing time the same day), Ethiopian distance star Yomif Kejelcha will line up at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon.
The 29-year-old Kejelcha ran 1:59:41 at this year’s London Marathon, becoming one of the athletes to break the two-hour barrier and recording the fastest marathon debut in history.
In 2024 he ran 57:30 at the Valencia Half Marathon, which remains the second-fastest men's half marathon time ever. In addition to that half, he currently holds the men's road 10 km world record of 26:31.
In 2025, half marathon world record-holder Kiplimo won in Buenos Aires in 58:29, lowering the course record by 36 seconds. If race-day weather and pacing are ideal, the course record will undoubtedly be one of the key storylines to watch.
After his breakthrough at the London Marathon, returning to the half—his more familiar distance—how fast can Kejelcha go?
This Sunday, we’ll be watching closely!
