In this issue we turn our attention to Pudong’s outer suburbs. Away from the city-center bustle, two distinctive athletics stadiums are tucked away there; they’ve witnessed and carried the sporting memories of generations.
1. Chuansha Stadium
Address:
2541 Huaxia East Road, Pudong New Area
Metro:
Line 2 Chuansha Station
Track:
Blue 8-lane standard 400 m synthetic track
Opening hours:
Daily 6:00–9:00, 18:00–21:30
Features:
Although the venue is a bit far, parking is very convenient. The underground parking lot opens directly onto the track and offers 848 parking spaces. Free for the first 30 minutes; 5 yuan for 30 minutes to 2 hours; beyond 2 hours, 2.5 yuan per half hour.
After a five-year renovation, it was refurbished in September 2024. The new blue track feels great underfoot—definitely worth a run.
There’s also a fitness jogging path on the outer ring, about 700 m long; if you want to do an LSD or a relaxed run, the outer ring feels more comfortable.
A 2,400-seat outdoor grandstand—spacious for leaving your bag, taking a break, or watching others put in laps.
2. Nanhui Stadium
Address:
490 Chengxi Road, Huinan Town, Pudong New Area
Metro:
Line 16 Huinan Station
Track:
Eight standard 400 m synthetic lanes
Opening hours:
May–Oct: 05:00–22:00; Nov–Apr: 05:30–21:00
Under maintenance from 2026/5/18–2026/7/20; closed to the public—don’t make a wasted trip.
Features:
Nanhui Sports Center has been operating since 1988 and is a gathering spot for local residents to stroll and run. The standard 400 m athletics track wraps around a football pitch. Simple, straightforward, pure!
The venue has no permanent spectator stands and is an open athletics field—be mindful of where you leave your bag while running.
What new changes will the two-month renovation at Nanhui Sports Center bring? Let’s look forward to it together.
Chuansha Stadium and Nanhui Sports Center may not have the modernity and convenience of city-centre tracks, but each in its own way preserves the warmth of sport for runners in Pudong’s outer suburbs.
Whether you prefer Chuansha’s “new” or Nanhui’s “old,” both Pudong suburban tracks are worth lacing up for—to run and feel every step.
For the next issue, which area’s athletics tracks would you like to see? Friendly reminder: not limited to Shanghai!
