In the third installment we're targeting Shanghai's southwest corner! Runners from Minhang, Qingpu, and Songjiang — today's for you. No more talk, let's head straight to the venues.
1. Minhang District Stadium
Address:
No. 540 Xindong Road, Minhang District
Metro:
Xinzhuang Station, Lines 1 and 5
Track:
8-lane standard 400 m synthetic track
Opening hours:
Daily 05:30–08:00, 17:30–21:00
Features:
There is heavy street traffic and parking is inconvenient, but parking on the road near the stadium gate is free;
The artificial turf in the center of the athletics field is off-limits for playing football, so runners can focus on their training;
The inner lanes are used by runners, while the outer lanes are mostly for power-walking and slow jogging;
Benches, convenient coat hooks, and protected power outlets line the track — after your run you can rest your feet, hang clothes, and charge your phone.
2. Da Linghao Bay Sports Activity Center
Address:
No. 788 Heqing Road, Minhang District
Metro:
Line 5: Jinping Road Station / Dongchuan Road Station
Track:
Sky-blue 8-lane standard 400 m synthetic track + standard 100 m sprint straight
Opening hours:
Open 24 hours
Features:
Track is open 24 hours, but first-floor restrooms have limited opening hours;
Reaching the field requires climbing several dozen steps; the track was renovated within the last two years and has no cracked or uneven sections;
There is almost no overhead shade — use sun protection when running in summer;
The stadium uses loudspeakers to maintain order; although many people walk there, the inner three lanes often remain free;
3. Qingpu District Stadium
Address:
No. 563 Pucang Road, Qingpu District
Metro:
Qingpu Xincheng Station on Line 17
Track:
8-lane standard 400 m synthetic track
Opening hours:
Daily 05:00-21:00
Mon, Tue, Thu 09:00-15:00; Fri 12:30-15:00 (except during winter and summer holidays) — the athletics field is provided for students and is closed to the public during these times
Features:
Underground public parking: 698 parking spaces, of which 628 are mechanical parking spaces; large vehicles are relatively difficult to park;
There are open-air stands on both sides of the track — convenient for putting down a bag or resting your feet;
Separate fast and slow lanes (divided by railings): the inner three lanes are the fast lanes, the outer five lanes are the slow lanes;
Venue for events including the 8th National Games — the track under your feet is the same type used in major competitions.
4. Songjiang Sports Center
Address:
145 Rongle Middle Road, Songjiang District
Metro:
Line 9 — Songjiang Sports Center Station
Track:
Standard 400 m synthetic track
Opening hours:
Weekdays 05:00–08:00, 18:00–21:00
Weekends 05:00–11:00, 18:00–21:00
Features:
There are spectator seats on both the east and west sides of the track, useful for temporarily placing personal items;
Some sections of the track have dark patches, mostly caused by uneven ground — hopefully it will be refurbished in the future;
Suitable for regular training and social runs — a great spot for night running in Songjiang.
These four athletics venues in southwest Shanghai each have their own strengths. In the next installment we'll feature more tracks. Which one do you want to see? Tell us in the comments!
