On 昂跑 recently launched its latest-generation flagship racing shoe — Cloudboom Strike 2. It has been upgraded in structure, foam tuning, and the upper, creating a clear contrast with the previous generation. Structure: In this generation we no longer see On 昂跑's signature CloudTec cushioning; it has been replaced by the new CloudTec Sphere midsole architecture. Compared with the previous generation's relatively "thin" forefoot foam, the second generation uses this structure to make the forefoot foam more "plump", raising comfort and feedback on contact and during toe-off to the next level. Additionally, the structure's two "cross-shaped" longitudinal and transverse grooves at fore and aft make forefoot flex very agile among today's top carbon-plated racing shoes. Compared with the first generation's traditional forefoot construction, the CloudTec Sphere midsole architecture also helps optimize running efficiency to some extent. Midsole foam: The Cloudboom Strike 2 still uses On 昂跑's top-tier Helion HF foam; it is softer while maintaining the same rebound speed, and is 15% lighter than the previous generation. The one-piece midsole of the second generation inevitably delivers a more balanced underfoot feel; in the first generation the rear-midfoot used a two-layer foam to work with the CloudTec cushioning. Notably, neither generation uses the traditional "sandwich" construction of plate shoes—that is, foam–plate–foam in the midsole. Both generations of the Cloudboom Strike place the carbon plate directly under its removable midsole (made of Helion HF foam and also serving as the insole), bringing the plate closer to the foot for a more direct propulsion feel. At the same time, the outsole rubber on the second generation is fuller, whereas the first generation had a "discontinuous" midfoot design. Runners who land on the heel will find a much better front-to-back transition in the second generation. Another reason the Cloudboom Strike 2 and 1 "don't look like they're from the same family" is their uppers. Upper: The second generation's one-piece engineered mesh upper resembles a robust Flyknit-like upper, achieving weight savings while ensuring breathability. Some may worry about support and durability, but don't — its upper is reinforced with a "cage-like" thermally bonded film. Compared with the first generation's high-strength mono yarn upper, the second generation's upper undoubtedly improves breathability and stretch. The standard Cloudboom Strike 2 is already on sale; the LightSpray version is tentatively scheduled for release in October.
