Salomon's S/LAB GENISIS has long been a winning weapon for many professional athletes and a race pick for amateur elites. Its excellent stability and grip, quick responsiveness and ample cushioning make it the decisive tool for creating gaps on technical sections, while also providing a "comfortable cruise" for middle- and long-distance events. However, the first-generation S/LAB GENISIS was released four years ago—many fans of the shoe might wonder when their trusted companion will get a successor. At this year's Chongli 168 trail race, the S/LAB GENISIS 2 claimed victories in the 30, 70 and 100 km categories. This shoe has begun to enter the public spotlight. The Matryx® Micro upper, compared with the previous-generation Matryx® upper, gains additional strength with the inclusion of Kevlar fibers (the primary material used in bulletproof vests). The midsole uses a dual-layer foam technology: the forefoot features the latest supercritical foam optiFOAM SQUARED+, plus a full-length optiFOAM, achieving efficient forefoot rebound and stable cushioning in the mid/rearfoot. The outsole adds more lugs mainly in the midfoot area and the midfoot outsole area is wider; the overall outsole contact area is 39% greater than the previous generation. Lug depth remains the same as the previous generation at 4.5 mm, but the lug pattern has changed from a trapezoid to a herringbone design. The increased grip will make it easier to handle more technical terrain. But the larger outsole contact area inevitably affects weight: the S/LAB GENISIS 2 is 14 g heavier than the previous generation. In short, the new S/LAB GENISIS 2 has stronger traction and a softer, bouncier, more aggressive feedback. When it comes to the ride between the new and old models, runners will likely split into two camps: one group (usually lighter-weight runners) chases a softer, bouncier feel, while the other group (usually heavier runners) prefers a lighter, more resilient ride.
