At 16:00 Beijing time this Saturday (August 8), the Swiss stop of the Golden Trail World Series, the Sierre–Zinal trail race, kicks off the action — we will be providing Chinese commentary.
The Sierre–Zinal course is 31 km long with 2,200 m of cumulative ascent; the men's course record is held by Kilian Jornet (2:25:34), and the women's course record is held by Swiss runner Maude Mathys (2:49:20).
Chinese trail-running elites Yao Miao, Tang Jingyan, Guan Yousheng, Zi Juwei, Wang Ruqin and Zhao Hu will line up at the start. Yao Miao finished sixth on this course last year — she’s in excellent form this season; what result will she produce?
On the international side, Morocco’s Elhousine Elazzaoui, currently leading the Golden Trail World Series, will face a concerted assault from the Kenyan contingent. Last year Kenyan athletes swept the podium; this year promises another clash of titans.
In the women's field, four-time champion and women's course record-holder Maude Mathys, Romanian Madalina Florea — a consecutive stage winner — and Kenyans Caroline Kimutai and Joyce Njeru are among Yao Miao’s main rivals.
Will anyone have a shot at a new course record this year?
