For runners, lighter shoes enhance the running experience and help us achieve better performance. Not long ago adidas’s sub‑100g shoe ADIZERO ADIOS PRO EVO 3 helped Sawei break the two‑hour barrier, once again sparking debate about shoe lightweighting. Chinese brands have also been experimenting in this area.
In this China lightweight running‑shoe Top 30 (based on the weight of a single shoe in size 42), Zhongqiao Sports leads with seven entries, ANTA has six, Erke four—ranking second and third respectively—followed by Li‑Ning and Xtep in fourth and fifth. Among these brands, Li‑Ning launched an ultra‑light series in 2005, and five years ago ANTA introduced the hydrogen running shoe ZERO at weights down to 99 grams; years of development have given these brands valuable experience in creating lightweight running shoes.
The 30 selected models fall into three categories: thick‑stacked race‑day speed shoes; thin‑soled competition/training shoes aimed at daily speed work and track environments; and casual jogging shoes for everyday life.
Among these shoes, the lightest model is Li‑Ning’s Longque, weighing as little as 89 grams per shoe. Of the top five lightest shoes, four are thick‑stacked road race‑day models, showing that current running‑shoe technology resources are being prioritized toward the racing lane.
By contrast, Li‑Ning’s ultra‑light line—now positioned as casual jogging—and ANTA’s hydrogen series—positioned as light‑activity footwear—no longer hold a clear weight advantage in the lightweight shoe field. This indicates that “lightness” delivers more value in racing, while everyday jogging shoes no longer pursue extreme lightness; balanced, lightweight performance has become more important.
